2007 HIGHLAND VETERANS DAY EVENTS The Week of November 5th Short essays composed by local school students “What Veteran’s Day Means to Me” will be on display for public viewing throughout town. Friday, November 9th Gold Star Veterans Memorial Display* 11am-2pm & 5pm-9pm, at the Highland Elk Lodge #981 at 3120 45th St., Highland. Free. Early showing to accommodate local school children) and the public light refreshments will be served. Veterans will be present to speak with those attending. 5:30pm Pearl Harbor Survivors 6:00pm Korean War Veterans Association 6:30pm Vietnam Veterans Association 7:00pm Women’s Veterans Association 7:30pm District Director of the American Legion *The Gold Star Veterans Memorial display began over 20 years ago by Tom Clark a local educator and veteran. The project was given to his students to identify Lake County veterans who lost their lives while serving in uniform…..and the rest is history. Each display case (over 1500) is made of wood and glass. Each case contains personal items from an individual fallen veteran. Items include photos, letters sent home to family, medals and decorations earned by individual. The collection has never been on display. Saturday, November 10th 11:00am Daughters of the American Revolution Timothy Ball Chapter will host their Veterans Ceremony at the Highway of Flags. 4pm-8pm Highland Elks Lodge #981 will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser. $7.00 adults/$4.00 children 5-12/under 5 free. All proceeds will be donated to Indiana veterans’ causes; i.e. Indiana State Veteran’s Home and local veterans’ relief funds. A small portion of the GOLD STAR VETERANS MEMORIAL DISPLAY will remain for viewing. For advance tickets call 972-1927 Sunday, November 11th (Veterans Day) 12noon-4pm A military apparatus display at Main Square Park 2:00pm Flag Disposal Ceremony at Main Square Park being hosted by American Legion Post 180.
