Highland's Wi-Fi Pilot Project
On the Cutting Edge of Technology

Highland began its Wi-Fi pilot project in late 2004 in the downtown area including Highway Avenue and Kennedy Avenue. The intent of the pilot project is to blanket the downtown area with a cellular mesh Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) service that combines the ease and speed of Wi-Fi with the prevalence and reliability of cellular, creating a self-healing mesh which allows unparalleled mobility of service within the downtown.

The Pilot Program is still in its testing phase. The Redevelopment Commission would like to know if you have tried to use the system and what your experiences have been. Please email us at cpetro@highland.in.gov with your comments.
If you are a business owner downtown and would like to become part of this network, call the Redevelopment Office at 219-972-7598 or email Cecile Petro at cpetro@highland.in.gov. In order to access the network, you may need a special connector, which will be available for a small charge. At the present time, the service is free to our downtown businesses and to those who visit the downtown with their laptop computers.
What Business Owners Say About Highland’s Wi-Fi:
"It is fabulous that the Town is providing this service! It's such a benefit for small business owners because we don’t have to spend our limited resources on internet access. We have found the service to be quick and reliable."
- Sue Ferguson, owner of Hoosier Highlander
"I think that this is a great service for the occasional user who comes downtown. How could you ask for anything better from your town?"
- Edward Wontor, owner of Cakes by Karen
"The Wi-Fi service has worked out well for our organization and has been completely trouble-free. It is wonderful--now our limited funds can be spent on children and not on Wi-Fi service."
- Rose Morititus, Down Syndrome Association
"Thank you so much for the services provided by Edward Dabrowski. He has really been a blessing to our store. He promptly responds whenever we need him to repair our wireless internet connection that the town had provided. We also would like to thank the Downtown Redeveopment Commission and the Town Council for the free internet service as well as all of the care to our community. We are very greatful."
- The Kolas Christian Bookstore Family
"I had to use the Highland municipal WiFi for emergency airline reservations. I have been a resident of Highland for a long time and appreciate your forward thinking on the matter of the Wi Fi. Thank you."
