JOB SUMMARY
Under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Director. Responsible for performing general fitness
center supervision. Must ensure that a high level of cleanliness, quality, and service is achieved and
maintained. Part-time position, 15-20 hours per week.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represents Highland Parks and Recreation in the most positive manner with current staff, Park Board
and Town Council Officials, and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of
staff and other customers of our service. Learns and uses operating practices of the Highland Parks and
Recreation Department.
- Upholds our mission "to enrich the lives of our residents by providing leisure facilities, programs and
services in a clean and safe environment for all ages."
- Inspects assigned centers, assesses the working condition of equipment to ensure effective operations
that meet the goals and objectives of the program activities.
- Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Provides visible patrols in an attempt to prevent incidents and accidents within the Fitness Center.
- Confronts inappropriate behavior, documents incidents, and refers policy violators as needed.
- Refers citizens to fitness programs that best meets their needs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness in assigned areas.
- Participate in mandatory staff orientation, training, meetings and ongoing education.
- Regular inspections and recommendations to the facility.
- Provide and monitor individual guidance and motivation to customers to enable each one to perform to
his/her fullest potential.
- Perform Quality Assurance Inspections as assigned. Ensure high quality percentage of cleanliness is
maintained in areas of assignment.
- Ensure that all equipment is clean and professional in appearance at all times.
- Participate in department safety and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
- Report all unsafe equipment and acts to appropriate Director.
- Assure that the integrity of security at the facility is maintained at all times.
- Communication with staff and other departments and administration.
- Serve as first responder to patron-related medical issues.
- Assist clients with membership contract options.
- Check-in clients as they enter the fitness center.
- Enforce Highland Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures.
- Participate in on-going marketing and membership drives.
- Other tasks as assigned by Recreation Director.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma required. College degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- At least one year of experience in Physical Education/Sports Medicine/Physical Training or other related
field with high customer/client contact required. Preferred certifications: AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NSCA.
- Demonstrated progressive growth in the field of fitness and wellness and facility maintenance preferred.
